Sportsgym Scandinavia, which has 16,000 members at 22 facilities in 12 cities, is finding that a robust small group training schedule is a great way to draw people in and keep them excited about heading to the gym.
The largest Sportsgym location in Östersund, Sweden opened in late 2016. The gleaming 2,100-square-meter facility features a large selection of cardio equipment, including treadmills, cross-trainers and bikes. But Sportsgym’s main focus is on the energy and camaraderie created in a pair of inviting group training areas—an extensive Hammer Strength HD Athletic rig configuration and a large Life Fitness SYNRGY360 system.

Sportsgym keeps its group training areas busy, and they’ve become hubs of energy and excitement at the Östersund location.
The SYNRGY360 area hosts seven small group training classes each week, and the club offers six HD Athletic classes each week. The group training offerings are fully booked.
“SYNRGY360 fits beginners to athletes,” said Jesper Jacobsson, a SYNRGY360 instructor. “It’s great. These days we have no time for exercise, no time for training. Here you combine so many exercises in so little time. My clients always leave with a smile on their faces. And they always want to come back next week.”

The mix of two different group training areas offers plenty of options for exercisers, regardless of their ability or fitness level. This encourages participation and increases the energy level at Sportsgym.
“Life Fitness is thinking of differentiating clubs more than anyone else,” said Fredrik Schultz, a Life Fitness sales representative. “I think (exercisers) are drawn to the Hammer Strength rig because the SGT classes are really trending now. The training you do is both cardio and strength and the combination of that is the best training you can get.”
